Craig Steinberg has been designing and building websites since he was in high school. After graduating from McGill University with a Bachelors of Psychology he decided to start Web by Craig. His family taught him the importance of customer satisfaction from a young age. His grandfather, Morris, was one of the five brothers behind the grocery store empire in Quebec named Steinberg’s. He taught Craig that the customer is always right (even when they’re wrong) and the value of treating clients and employees with respect. The inventor of one of the first customer reward systems in Canada, pinky stamps, Morris knew how important customer loyalty was. These lessons were invaluable in shaping the type of company Web by Craig is today. Bill Steinberg, Craig’s father, was the Mayor of the Town of Hampstead for 16 years. He is an extremely honest and ethical man. He wrote the code of ethics for the town and spurred the Quebec government to start requiring municipalities to encode their own codes of ethics. This sense of honour clearly had an impact on Craig and his business. Web by Craig has rescued many clients who had been taken advantage of by unethical web designers. The company believes in offering great value and will never gauge our clients.
In addition to running a full time Web and Graphic Design business Craig volunteers as a first responder on the ambulance for Cote Saint-Luc Emergency Medical Services. His love for the medical field and helping others started at age ten when he joined St John’s Ambulance (Division 777 St Laurent) as a cadet. He volunteered with St John’s for almost ten years. In 1997 he started volunteering in the Emergency Department at the Jewish General Hospital, where he now works as an administrative agent part time. In 1998 he was certified as an EMT and started with CSL EMS before going to Israel and volunteering as a medic with Magen David Adom (Israel’s national ambulance service) for four months. He is still active in health care working part time for the Shriners Hospital for Children Canada and volunteering for CSL EMS. He even made their website while acting as their Lieutenant of Communications.
Craig’s interests don’t stop at first aid. He loves animals. He has two cute cats (Silver Lining and Storm Cloud) and used to share the family dog, a black Labrador and New Founlander mix. He is an expert skier, avid traveler, camper and hiker. He speaks several languages and loves to cook. He blogs about web and design and used to have a question and answer column in a local newspaper. Some of his articles include: Spam Scams and Shams, Building a Website vs Maintaining One, and currently writing one about how to keep your kids safe on the web.
